About Lake Brienz

Lake Brienz is a large mountain lake and impresses with its extraordinary turquoise colour. It is embedded between two imposing mountain ranges, is 14 km long and 2.8 km wide. Its surface area is 29.8 km².

The shores are lined with picturesque villages with traditional wooden houses. A magical attraction on the lake are the imposing Giessbach Falls and the historic Grandhotel. A wonderful place whose visit can be ideally combined with a boat trip.

From 6 November 2023 to 12 April 2024, navigation on Lake Brienz will be on a winter break. We look forward to welcoming you on Lake Thun or in the boat restaurant «Ufem Fluss» at the boat landing stage in Interlaken Ost.

The most popular routes on Lake Brienz include the following: 

• Interlaken Ost to Iseltwald: The boat trip from Interlaken Ost to Iseltwald takes around 45 minutes. This can be ideally combined with a trip to the famous pier in Iseltwald. The pier appears in various scenes of the Korean Netflix series «Crash Landing on You», which made it famous. The boat trip can also be combined with the idyllic lakeside path from Iseltwald to the Giessbach falls (or vice versa). 
• Interlaken Ost to Giessbach: The journey from Interlaken Ost to Giessbach takes around 1 hour. Then visit the impressive Giessbach Falls and the historic Grand Hotel Giessbach. 
• Lake Brienz round trip: A complete round trip on Lake Brienz takes around 3 hours. This includes a 20-minute stop in Brienz. The boat trip can also be combined with the train. The boat trip from Interlaken Ost to Brienz takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes. In Brienz you can change to the train and return to Interlaken Ost. The train ride from Brienz to Interlaken Ost takes about 20 minutes.
