About Lake Thun

The deep blue Lake Thun lies in the middle of the imposing mountain world of the Bernese Oberland with a view of the famous mountains Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. It is 17.5 km long and up to 3.5 km wide. Its surface area is 47.85 km². 

Romantic lakeside villages lie on the shore and can be easily reached by boat. There are five historic castles to discover around the lake. The lake is popular for excursions and numerous water activities. A boat trip can be ideally combined with an excursion to the Niederhorn or the St. Beatus Caves.

The boats on Lake Thun operate all year round. 

The most popular boat trips on Lake Thun include the following: 

• Thun to Interlaken (West) by boat: The boat trip from Thun to Interlaken takes around 2 hours and 10 minutes. A complete round trip on Lake Thun takes 4 hours and 40 minutes. This includes a 20-minute stop in Interlaken West. 
• Thun to Spiez by boat: The trip from Thun to Spiez takes around 50 minutes. This boat trip can be ideally combined with a walk along the Spiez-Faulensee lakeside path. The boat trip from Faulensee back to Thun then takes 1 hour.
